In photography, people are the most photographed subjects. It also can be far more difficult than it seems. The viewer has to be given some insight to the subject's personality and character. Also the timing and the mood needs to work together in order to capture the nature of the subject and let it speak for itself. If that connection between the subject and the viewer is not established, then the portrait as a whole will just be mediocre.

The photographer of this particular portrait has the right lighting concept. It produces some nice soft tones and a gentle contrast. This person has done a wonderful job in capturing this moment of the model as well. This is also a great pose which makes for an interesting composition. The angles really gives a sense of quiet emotion that makes a decent impact.

However, it feels like the image needs to be enhanced on the lighting a little more, especially on the model's face. Sometimes adding low artifical lighting will help bring the shadows out to define the shape of the face. Don't completely disregard the shadows because it will leave the lighting on background a little uneven. Also, please pay more attention to the background because in this type of lighting it can become really sharp and a little bit distracting. As for the compostion, I really love it, but it feels a bit forced leaving the model limited space in the image. It never hurts to add more scene so the the viewer can see what the model is interacting with.

That's really the beauty of photography, experimenting with your environment and keep mind all the little things that goes with it.

All in all, this really is a wonderful portrait.
